Fallen From Grace

Ooh, they knew how to be naughty

Those rascally students of mine.

Take for example the droll tale

Of how spelling marks did decline.

Before ‘The Fall’, the marks were high-

All a good teacher could hope for-

Until one uncovered the truth

And the story became folklore.

These young folk had taken the list

That had been written on a chart,

Gone to the side of a cupboard

And taped it up, beside the art.

Well now, once that worked the first time

Of course they had to try again.

I, teacher, saw them craning necks-

This time it was really insane.

Up, up they looked at the ceiling

As every new word was pronounced

Those students weren’t very subtle

And at last I myself, announced

“Oh It was too good to be true

If only that were not the case!

All bad things must come to an end.

You , students, have fallen from grace!”
