Dear sacred tree, you added much life
To my solitary childhood years.
It was upon your safe, stretching limbs
That I blotted out troubles and fears.
I would swing away around the world,
Stretch body and imagination
Winging away from life's sadnesses
To any far-off destination.
I climbed your sturdy branches, dear friend,
All the way to your very summit.
I scanned horizons for adventures-
Not body nor spirits would plummet
Yet now they're coming to cut you down-
Saws and ropes in hand, ready to start
To destroy my stalwart childhood friend
Who's ever deep-rooted in my heart.
Oh yes, it can hurt bitterly to see a tree cut down that holds so many cherished memories.
You express the hurt so very touchingly, the pain of the uprooting of something so dear to us.
Lovely!
Love and peace
