Calypso

Long  ago, a man loved the sea,

And as I loved him, he loved me;

The sea my first and last

And him between.

Ours was a story of a love that couldn't be.

He offered me to share his home,

A drifting prison wood and stone,

 With sheets amassed with blood and bone.

But when he offered me his hand,

I sunk my toes into the sand

And said I'd never leave the ocean, for dry land.

Oh salty breeze a bitter gale,

With on great ease he set asail,

The waters stern they churned and burned

From rippling tears and hail;

And when he'd ran his ship aground,

He sat and listened for the round,

Of a sirens call to fall a weeping mound

'Cause when he'd offered her his hand,

She sunk her toes into the sand

He knew she'd never leave the ocean, not for dry land.

Long  ago, a man loved the sea,

And as I loved him, he loved me;

The sea my first and last

And him between.

In the maelstroms heart i loved him still,

Always had and always will,

But the squall of tears that broke my heart could never break my will.

 He never heard the way i cried

When he gave his body to the tide,

And tore apart the heart that was the ocean's bride.

I closed his eyes with my own hand,

And laid him down into the sand Praying that he'd understand

That I could never leave the ocean for dry land.
