Tomorrow is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the martyrdom of Matthew Shepard, the young man who was brutally and heinously beaten by a pair of monstrouly homophobic thugs on October 6th of 1998; he succumbed to his injuries on the 12th.
I will post no poetry here tomorrow, in honor of, and sorrow for, his untimely death.
I take comfort in the fact that he is now with the redeemed of the great congregation (as the Psalmist calls i), in the Paradise of Christ. Others, also homophobic, have attempted, in the recent past, to tell me that he has been denied Heaven; but a metaphysical experience I was given now tells me that he is.
Matthew, please pray for me, that my Faith shall never falter, and that I may be always aware of my need for Salvation, and always grateful for, and rejoicing in, Salvation (as Habakkuk wrote).
