We like to think we fully understand
the details of local reality:
the real of our world was taxes and Rome;
a hard living swallowed up in hard dying;
a half-roofed hovel as the family home;
no true advance, no matter how much trying.
But then, into this troubled weary land,
Jesus came; and among us, He revealed
His, and His Father's, spirituality,
no longer to hidden and concealed
behind a veil. He taught us how to hope,
and with the certainties of joy---to cope
with old burdens that, by new Faith, are lightened;
and past shadows are, by the future, brightened.
