Cinnamon hearts and two eggs shells

Folder:
2013

I forgot

Until just now

Until I put pen to page

Mapped out our existence

I forgot

How my room was perfectly clean

How it was lit up with candles

My bed against the far right wall

Pressed smooth

The desk standing to its left

The cake decorated in cinnamon hearts and hot wheels

The white and black Porsche I loved

The feeling I felt

Deep in the pit of my stomach

Like suddenly I was foolish

Guilty

Wrong

The pain in my heart of loving you still

Thinking ‘maybe we can work this out’

Two forks

Two plates

Your loving smile

‘Happy birthday baby’

How you cut the cake and we ate in awkward candle light silence

Dim enough to hide the scars

We each had three pieces

Then it happened

CRUNCH

‘What the…’

You blushed

‘I dropped two egg shells into the batter and Steve mixed them in before I could get them out’

‘You actually got Steve to help you bake a cake?’

Loud laughter for the first time in days

Absolution

‘I was hoping I’d get them in my slice and you’d never need to find out’

And I kissed you like I forgot
