Paralyzed in Paradise

The sun set too soon on this lazy day.

The heat from its rays begins to cool.

I had so longed for this feeling to stay

But my rearview shows the walk of a fool

Traipsing through a place he doesn’t belong,

A lingering peace that will not last long.

Crashing waves seem to judge and opine.

The moon sends a shiver down my spine.

I paid such a handsome price

To be paralyzed in paradise.

Palm trees cast alluring shadow,

Caribbean surf sets a gentle mood,

But once darkness descends I know

These diversions of bliss are misconstrued.

I’ve come so far yet I can’t deny.

As I walk along the dunes I cry.

I had hoped to seize them, cast them away,

But the fears and doubts still hold me at bay.

I paid such a handsome price

To be paralyzed in paradise.
