Still Here

Who remembers when Bill Withers died?
It's just me in this room.
The guy who said he’d meet you? He lied.
I can relieve the gloom.

You’ll learn some time past the midnight hour
I have what they call staying power.

It’s been quite a long time spent in this skin.
Where others buckled I have held strong.
I have learned to honor the truth within
When others have tried to steer it wrong.

With so many I’ve outlasted somehow -
Enemies fallen, friends gone before their time -
I understand that the moment is now
To do the hard work, to continue the climb.

There’s a fork in the road where the smoke clears
And only the strong are left standing.
I walk assured in the face of my fears,
Built tough through the trials of all the years,
My heart only further expanding.

Yes, I have fought and won
With my head unbowed.
I come second to none
In this faceless crowd.

Times may be tough, but I won’t shed a tear.
No one can take from me that I’m still here.
