Sweet Sixteen

No slender filament of moonlight, this.

The chain strong and durable

Crafted of silver, carefully hung

Around my neck, joined in front

By a heart soldered to the chain,

With a solid rectangular pendant

Hanging from it.

You gave it to me for my

Sixteenth birthday,

The first gift I ever recieved

That actually meant something.

Was important.

We were young and in

Love, though we never

Acted on it, and then

You were gone.

Forever.

The years passed,

And I moved around,

Changed, and grew

As a person.

Though recently more

So than before.

I thought the necklace

Was lost, never to be

Seen again. Imagine my

Surprise upon finding it

In a box of jewelry

That my mother sent me.

Upon seeing it, I am

Sixteen again, wrapped

In your arms at midnight,

Sitting there in the sand

While watching the moon

Fracture against the waves

That roll and swell

Along the shore.

"Love Always" is what

Is engraved on the pendant.

I will, trust me.

I will.

Lovely This

Spent a lot of time on the shores of the world. You got it just right.

Lovely this…

While watching the moon

Fracture against the waves

That roll and swell

Along the shore.
