I thought of you today
And smiled.
Picked up some flowers,
Went to see your mother
For a while.
She asked me how I was doing
And I said, "Fine."
We talked about my school and her work,
About how the world is changing.
She misses you, you know.
Your sister came by while I was there,
Only stopped for a while.
Your nephew's really growing big,
Told me he was turning six soon.
I promised him presents.
Saw an old picture of you on the mantle,
The one with your brother giving you a noogie.
Your mom saw me looking at it,
So I took my leave.
I'm going back to see her next week.
I still can't quite believe you both are gone, you know?
It seems like just yesterday
You were smiling at me,
Excitedly telling me about your new apartment.
It seems like just yesterday,
We were discussing your art and my music,
Your brother's love of writing.
I still can't believe that you're gone forever.
Your brother took it so hard,
Stopped writing, stopped creating.
Stopped living, eventually.
Your mom looks so frail these days.
I still remember the way that you laugh
And I still remember your mischievious smile
I can do nothing other than remember.
Memories are tricky, you know.
You reach to grasp them
And they skitter away into smoke.
Sometimes they take you and shake you,
Forcing you to relive them.
But here I am, talking to a tombstone,
When I can hear your voice so clearly in my mind.
I'll leave the flowers here.
And see you next year.
Sad And Universal
Something goes out of you - slc
Tragically beautiful. Touches
Tragically beautiful. Touches my heart. Thank you for sharing.
Long days and pleasant nights
