When the doctor said you had months to a year,
I watched as you grappled with the fear,
until that moment I had thought I would walk away,
those words made me turn around and stay,
You had been there for me when my right side was gone,
if not for you I would not have carried on,
you said " don't worry hon, I'll take care of you".
you did all the things that I couldn't do,
from helping me dress to washing my hair,
whatever I needed you were always there,
to cook to clean, to tie my shoes,
there wasn't anything you weren't willing to do,
I know it wasn't easy I was at times so enraged,
helpless and frustrated at feeling so caged,
but everyday you got up and made sure I took my meds,
you took such good care of me made sure I was fed,
when I regained the movement I had lost,
losing me, to you seemed to be the ending cost,
a wall had appeared between you and I,
and it was there until the day we were told you would die,
when I saw the look in your eyes as you struggled with the fear,
of dying alone, of not having me here,
there was no doubt in my heart as to what I would do,
I simply said " don't worry hon, I'll take care of you....
:) you are lucky to find
:) you are lucky to find someone who loves you enough to stand by them, I am sorry to hear that they have become ill as well.
the only thing about this poem which I find difficult, as far as techinique goes, is this part here which again, the way its worded feels odd, it is kind of awkward and feels like the sentence is arranged just to rhyme:
"when I regained the movement I had lost,
losing me, to you seemed to be the ending cost,
a wall had appeared between you and I,
and it was there until the day we were told you would die,"
other than that, the rest flows well and the emotions behind it are clear and well expressed :)
Much Love
