So tall and proud that glint of steel
that smolders in your eyes,
A deeper look far within
is where your softness lies,
Surrounded by an armored shell
re-enforced by every pain,
Self-exile lies upon your soul
just like a stain,
Many come and many go
only the rare will turn your head,
Those who see beyond your walls of stone
knowing exactly what you dread,
To touch, or to be touched
by a potential friend or lover,
The risk can seem too great for one
afraid they won't recover,
Your walls are high your trenches deep
unbreached and rarely crossed,
You know that to relax your guard
your heart may well be lost,
So you steel yourself against the wind
against the rain and thunder,
Invulnerable to everything except
the love you might hold for another,
There is no halfway to your heart
no midway to your soul,
Because if you beckon love within
giving all is all you know,
You must learn to speak aloud your fears
and express what you truly feel,
For your freedom's in the loving touch
and trust,that tempers steel.......
