Simple Rains

I watch the rain, yet long to feel it,

Dancing waters beneath my feet,

A downpour of ecstasy falling on me,

Washing away this feeling of despair.

I see the people, heads hung, hopes low,

My head would be high,

The sound of the rain matching my heartbeat,

The thunder rolls on,

As do I.

They raise their hoods and walk on,

While I look longingly,

Wanting to be drowned in that passionate frenzy,

Cooled and then warmed,

By the same flow of rains,

The same flow as my life,

A flood of gentle waters,

Simple rains,

Wading in the freedom of my want.

The people run, fearing the cascade,

I lift my hands, cupping every one,

Each single drop bears its own path and destiny,

Like thousands of souls merging as one.

I watch in anger as they shelter,

They cannot bear it as I can,

The glitters that fall and enlighten,

Moisten even the driest faces,

Making everything look pure,

Innocence is being revived.

Run now, while I wonder,

Hide now as I watch,

The storms will soon set in,

I can see the birds circling the skies,

From my prison past the window,

You’ll find yourself abandoned and stranded,

Like I am now,

Watching your freedom with envy,

Sitting here without much other thought,

Except to be soaking in that goodness,

A shower of hope.
