The Child and the Snake.

The room was basked in a white glow,

The windows open with a stream of air,

Brightness amongst the tattered sheets,

Of the bed of the girl lying there,

The room was littered with papers of sorts,

Scattered across the tarnished floor,

Where in the corner, all curled up,

A snake lay watching at the door,

It's senses alert as the girl began to stir,

Slithered through the wreckage of a life long forgot,

The ruins of a childhood better left alone,

Tearing through the mayhem, letters left to rot,

The girl rubbed her tired eyes,

Red from the tears of the night before,

Sitting upright in her bed,

Alone and empty, weary and unsure.

The snake however knew his goal,

Kept sliding forth without a pause,

His fangs beared, gleaming in the light,

He had a purpose, he knew his cause,

And as the girl stretched and leant back against the wall,

The beast edged closer toward his prey,

Her eyes on the window, the freedom outside,

His on the beauty that was left to decay,

Before she could yell, the creature approached,

A stealthy movement with an eerie grin,

She reached out to stop it, but no sooner done,

Then the snake snapped his jaw with her hand within,

The venom then began to explore her veins,

As she tried to wrestle the snake free from it's grasp,

But not of strength enough to do so,

She could just utter one tiny gasp.

Her vision now blurred, her heartbeat slowed down,

A man came into the light and struck at the beast,

He took her into his arms and lay a hand on her chest,

Right where her heart would be beneath,

She managed a smile, looking to the ground,

Seeing the chaos that she had made,

She wittnessed this act with pride and with passion,

Tearing her poems apart in the shade,

Darkness born from the passion that bred,

Because no one understood the maiden's desire,

And now she was dying, the man would pity her,

Though he could not ease the heat of the fire.

"Do not worry about this deed now done,

Don't fear for me, this is now best,

I need this peace within my soul,

I can finally be at rest."

The young girl sobbed, her tears bitter sweet,

Before she uttered her last words before she'd die,

"Your poison killed me, but I do not hate you...

Just let the little girl cry..."
