I's seen a slave wit his legs
tied to a tree
& his arms tied to a rope
on a horses body
da massa would tell da horse "go"
& da slave's body would tear
down the middle
I's seen a mamma wit child hung
upside down
dey cut her in da belly and da
baby fall to da ground
da baby would lay as helpless
as could be
da massa would den crush da
babies head wit his feet
I's seen massa go between my
woman's legs
his mens made me watch by
hold'n my head
I's seen slaves run but dey
get caught
dey would have dey ears pinned to
a board fo da fight dey fought
some had dey feets cut off
dis made some of us weak & soft
you hear dese niggas say slavery
wasn't that bad
if you believe that mess den you
really been had
slavery was da worse ting dat could
have eva been
filled wit nuth'n but hurt it had
to be a sin
massa would say "nigga you ain't nuth'n"
and beat me again and again
massa say he spose to do dis cuz
he a christian
da bible don say keep people slaves
cuz of da color of dey skins
it say you spose to love folks no
matta what skin dey in
dem white folks can't read fo da light o'day
cuz I swear da bible don say wha dey say
I's not worried cuz da Lawd will make
tangs good
dem white folks juss need some lov'n
cuz dey juss misunderstood
