You always said you could endure a lot of pain
happiness is what you make it
you were always the one to weather the rain
life is easier if you learn to forget
Broken limbs and bruised skin
neighbors call 911 for help
constantly expressing undying love for him
in denial refusing to help yourself
Your son got used to the yells & screams
you had a future & set goals
he gave you nightmares killed your dreams
you allowed your self-esteem to bend and fold
I told you to leave offered my car to borrow
you said it was your fault he won't do it again
you said he'll cool down it'll be OK tomorrow
you told me I wasn't a real friend or else I'd understand
Now he has hit you one time too hard
your son looks so adorable in his black suit
we all knew one day it would go to far
I clear my throat before I eulogize you
I THANK YOU for writing this peice. I was in a situation for a short period of time that I walked away from and I thank God for giving me the strengh and the wisdom to do so, before it was too late. This peice has reaffirmed my decision. Bye the way, this is a masterpeice.
A very grotesque poem. Not the grotesque as in sickening but as in the style. Spousal abuse can be soo hard. It seems so strange that the boy can look good in his suit. nice contrasts and tying in here.
I commented on this piece on DPJ, but I wanted you to know that it really hit home for me. My husband was a police officer and made a habit of beating me for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am no longer in that situation, but in retrospect I realize that I am one the fortunate ones. They don't always get to leave. Thank you for sharing this piece and it's nice to know there are other michiganders who truly love the craft of poetry. much luv-kelly
WOW, what a well written piece that will get you to think. Blind Love will hurt you one way or another....Cover Girl
