Why do we aspire to be
who we aren't
i.e. "white"
what is it about that
race that draws us in
and makes us want to be
like them
even when they are trying
so hard to convert from
suburban to urban
we still seek to find
happiness
in their whiteness
now I ain't say'n being white
ain't right
but who declared being anything
else was wrong
why is it that something or someone
has to have the stamp of approval
from white Amerika in order to be good
Daily we negate who we are
to be who we aren't
we make up excuses for not being white
& come up with pseudo solutions
to make us whiter
i.e.
I'm part cherokee
how much self hate can a person have
to not want to be who they are
Shit! You probably read'n this think'n
this don't apply to you.
Think again!
From another stand point there are lots and lots of white people aspiring to be black...no names but some new rappers...athletes etc etc. It flip flops back and forth everyone seems to go stupid when they hear about this or that race but the truth of the matter is that it doesn't matter.
At first it was the first white male b-ball player...then it was the first black male b-ball player then it was the first white female b-ball player then the first black female b-ball player...(maybe not in this order but you get the picture) and soon I would not be surprised if it was "the first gay b-ball player" or the "first lesbian b-ball player" People always seem to find a reason to separate themselves from the masses.
Very well written! I like it! This is a hot topic for me and my rainbow roots. But I won't pull out my box on crayons on you. Nice write! And readers shouldn't take this poem so personal! For pete's sake,it's a poem!
im not trying to be mean but this poem is kind of harsh because not every so-called black person wants to be white. also not all white people are so-called evil, mean people against blacks, hispanics, japanese, chinese, etc., etc. all i ask is for you to please think before you get all kinds of prejudice against whites.
