Nocturnes: Talk Of the Comfortless Abandoned

To chart this distant, dead world, not wreck
upon it, even with you, Beloved;
whose several, tear-filled, terrified eyes
reflect the changeless, dull gray skies---
as harsh and indifferent as granite: our
sepulcher and the ship's last berth,
once called by these fossilized skeletons . . . earth.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by Wallace Stevens' poem, "Postcard From The Volcano."
