important date

I have this really important date,
I'll get a haircut and shave my face,
put on Cologne so I smell real great,
might be the one, this might be fate.

I'm practicing all the words I will say,
because I never know if this will be my day,
the date is coming quickly, the 6th of May,
so I have practiced so it will go my way.


I will play along, I will be a good sport,
because this date is not with an escort,
I hope and pray that this date is short,
its not with a lady, its my date in court.

oh man I was about to say

oh man I was about to say "uhm not sure some girl you have never met is worth all this..blah blah self love blah blah" then the ending hit like a truck coming from the direction you just looked and cleared! not at all what I thought the poem was about, and even though for me the flow was thrown off by the need to rhyme, the message was clear and impacting simply because of the shift in the readers mental state and relation to the 'date'

ha ha, guess i got you. sorry all my poems rhyme, i used to write punk rock songs in the 80's and early 90's, all my songs rhymed. went to court for mediation over custody of my 4 kids. i have had custody sence july 2012 do to my wifes problems. nothing has changed, the courts aren't helping, so i have asked for a psychological evaluation on us both. this is to decide where the kids should go. scariest thing iv'e ever gone through, and iv'e been through a lot.

thanks for the comments, my wife and i split up, so this court date was about custody of our kids. i can only see it going my way, but very scary none the less.
