During her childhood she:
- peddled her bike as fast as she could
to keep up with the others.
- was the first to jump in the mud puddle
because she wanted to win the bet.
- crumpled through the leaves wherever she went.
- chose a wooden wheelchair from an old 'Sear's'
catologue for her christmas toy.
- insisted on being 'Roy Rogers' and her male
counterpart be 'Dale Evans.'
- never knew her dad, he died just prior to her birth.
- had a male role model, her brother.(he had
thirteen years on her.)
- obeyed his every word, she admired him so.
- hid under the bed and pretended to be
a radio host.
- went door to door selling 'Girl Scout' cookies
once they where purchased she insisted on the
the first bite and the neighbors abided.
- was given a nickle every Sunday for church and
on the way detoured to the local candy store.
- with the nickle bought one cent worth of candy and
four cents went to the church offering.
- loved to share.
- had a dog named 'Honey' that followed her everywhere.
- still hid under that bed so she could hear what was
being said in the other room.
- heard she was going to be an aunt and was very
excited that she told the neighborhood...
(The wedding came as soon as possible.)
- in her latter days of youth, added to the
curriculum, went school, played ball, rode
horses, went swimming, dabbled in writing, held her
own if anyone tried to bully her.
- never veered from her convictions and to this day
remains a wealth of all God's talents.
Darling Spanky,
She e-mailed me a few days ago and is being very upbeat although things don't look good. I told her I'm betting on her coming through and when she does I'm going to give her a gypsy's magical cure to restore her blocked arteries.
I also have my friends in the Brit stroke survivors charity Different Stroke rooting for her. If willpower can work over 4000 miles she is home and hosed.
hey this was a really sweet poem. i loved reading it... and some others of your poems...
