"Literary Concubines"

by Jeph Johnson

Hardly ever a phrase like "happy camper"
emits from my lips
For I'm cleverly tempered
with a mix of sentiment and wit.
Nouns I choose
are rectified by adjectives.
I'm sound, I'm sure,
it's just my word's selection seldom is.
Until the final hour
of my mistake,
Concubines seduce my power
by grim heartbreak.
Mistresses of
literary imagery
undress and impress
the very dreams they portray.
I combine truth with what is real
as my concubines seduce until I feel
and listen carefully to the sound;
Explicit they try to stare me down.
My harem full of compositional lexicon
stares until a proposition decides upon
another messy collection of words:
"Lover depressed"...the diction's so absurd!
