She said in the beginning.
He is oh so sweet,
sweet as the sweetest sugar.
and he swept me off my feet.
~
I can’t get enough of him.
I yearn for him when he’s away.
I feel my love grow stronger for him,
each and every day.
~
But I nicely stated,
He may have swept you off your feet,
and he may be sweet as sugar,
but sugar isn’t always sweet.
~
She said toward the middle.
He’s still as sweet as sugar,
but he’s got a bitter side,
and he took his anger out on her.
~
She also said she loves him,
and doesn’t want to leave him.
But the pain is getting unbearable,
and the situation’s becoming grim.
~
This I told her so,
You can’t hide that you’re getting beat.
And I know you pretend he’s as sweet as sugar
But sugar isn’t always sweet
~
She still had yet,
to listen to me.
But in the end,
I know she’ll see.
~
Finally she left him a note,
although she could barely write,
She was feeling so very weak
and the tears were blocking her sight.
~
She told him it was over,
and that they had reached an end.
And she told him he used to be so sweet,
but she could no longer pretend.
~
He used to be so sweet to her.
but he left a bitter taste.
Their love spoiled and went sour.
With each bruise and tear on her face.
~
It took her many years,
of crying tears and pain,
Black eyes and bruises,
and love she couldn’t gain.
~
Then she finally realized,
what I had been telling her all along,
But was too scared to face him,
but knew what he was doing was wrong.
~
The courage finally built,
now she’s finally free.
And it may have taken years,
for her to listen to me.
~
He’s out of her life for good,
and now she feels complete.
With these final words he heard from her
“Sugar isn’t always sweet.”
