We Hope You Understand

Child, when Daddy shuts the door

And you don't think you could cry more

And when your broken heart is sore

We hope you understand

Tomorrow starts your whole new life

Mum alone, Dad with new wife

Which is the one that wields the knife?

We hope you understand

And when you think the worst is through

Our focus is returned to you

Do you realise what we're trying to do

Do you understand?

Well, do you know that in our scorn

Divorce is chess, the child the pawn

Mum, in our broken home this morn

How could I understand?

I like how you wrote this. It's from the view point of the child verses the view point of the adult. Divorce is a hard thing to endure, especially for a child, and some people never understand it or get over it.
