All her life she's been told she's pretty
By family and friends, and even by strangers
But when she looked into a mirror
She never saw pretty, she only saw herself
She saw her own cold eyes staring back at her
Sometimes they stared at each other long and hard
Still with all of her eyes together
She never sees pretty, she only sees herself
the others were right. ugly can be removed. if you figure it out before i do, let me know. i can relate. v.
I loved this poem. It makes me wonder sometimes how one could be so beautiful/handsome and actually feel that on the inside. Most of the time, that is not the case. Good work

Tricia I know that girl.Only she sees the true self. Only she knows of the dark ugliness festering inside her. And that is what overpowers all else in that distorted reflection. Those other people are fools. The externals mean nothing. Nothing at all. Camouflage. That is all. Great work again Tricia. Keep venting it. Fleur
pretty universal, as I think all humans have this downfall, be it man or woman. Call it insecurities based on the images of prefect humans that are broadcasted to us daily by the media, be it sitcoms, music videos, movies, etc. The comparison of oneself to those, always leaves one lacking. But isn't that their mission?
Yes, Mel is right. There is too much of being unsatisfied with oneself in the world. No one seems to be happy with their own image any more. I have experience with a person who is anorexic, bulimic, alcoholic and so many things. They are so NOT satisfied to the point of ruining EVERYONE's lives around them, including their own children. This is what happens when you can't look into a mirror without those feelings. Linda
...and for all we know, this girl may start to diet and diet and diet...and be another poor wretched soul on the determined mindless road to a 'slim Nirvana'. Sad indeed... Such is the parody of beauty...and such is the foolishness of youth and ignorance. Thanxs for sharing this, Tricia.
