Our Plight

Our Plight

We drift through mists of glam and glitter
Life’s looks so sweet, the taste so bitter.
Love crossed stars on twirling litter
And their world is all a stage,
A place they play and rage.

The words are dire, on the ground,
The same images floating around and round.
We duck and shiver at every sound,
And wonder how we came here,
A place of lies, smiles and fear.

Ice cubes in a rounded glass,
Melting, sinking as we cry and watch.
We blame each other for what will come to pass.
Graphs and protests were paid no heed.
Too slow the growth, from those planted seeds.

A whole world gone blind and deaf and mad,
A people coddled by soft surroundings,
A pretence we feel something glad.

And while we watch our own sun set,
amid a cloud of our own making.
We pray, we pretend and avert our eyes,
from the fruits of our poisoned tree.
The songs and praises of twilight paradise,
seem bleak and broken now.

And we ourselves, will match those songs,
For we shall see all our wrongs.

We wrought upon this earth a halter.
And so our star began to fall.
Beneath the weight of its own glamour,
To crush our broken hall.
