An Observation

2002 Poetry

I wonder how it must be

To participate in life that way

Not able to hear the simple sounds

That most of us take for granted

It's strange that we don't consider

The sounds that we hear everyday

We go through life in a vacuum

Missing things that some can't enjoy

Observing those that need to cope

With disabilities of varied nature

Makes me realize my own behavior

Could be better with how I greet each day

We should not be concerned

About what we do not have

Instead we should be very grateful

For the things which we do

All our lives are different

In their own special way

We have to step back and observe

The qualities our life preserves
