Christmas Time in Manila

It's Christmas time in Manila again
The time for peace and goodwill toward men
It's the time we eat lots of food
There's traffic in the streets and the drivers are rude
They're breaking all the traffic laws
Will they get presents from Santa Clause?
The taxis won't give you lifts
It's the time you have to buy lots of gifts
Christmas has become commercial they say
Everybody ends up having to pay
But since it's the time for peace
Why not buy something for your nephew or niece?
If buying an expensive gift is what you're thinking of
Why not give the gift of love?
It's cheaper, you know it's true
Let someone else give an expensive gift to you
There's no snow here it's only hot
People are drinking so have another shot!
They're having parties so don't be late
Eat the lechon and try not to gain weight
The kids are happy there is no class
But they still have to wake up early for Midnight Mass
The beggars are begging and create lots of fuss
Give them your money and they'll say, "Merry Christmas"
It gets pretty commercial in the city
The guys dress up and the girls look pretty
We put up lanterns in our house
We're even feeding the pesky mouse
We also put up Christmas lights
While relatives come visit in airplane flights
And we put up a Christmas tree too
So Merry Christmas to all of you!
Hey! This is a pretty good depiction of how Christmas is here in Manila. I especially like the last line of the fourth stanza. :D
