I Forgot Your Name

When we last saw each other it was quite a while
So now that I bump into you in the mall I just say, “Hi!” and smile
I have to admit I’m the one to blame
You see, I have since forgotten your name
Remembering names depends from case to case
I can’t recall yours but I remember your face
When we first met we got along and were birds of the same feather
We exchanged calling cards and promised to definitely get together
But as time passed by we lost touch
I didn’t think of you or miss you that much
So recognition is something I have to feign
Since your name has been pushed completely out of my brain
You’re with a friend and me too
It’s embarrassing that I can’t introduce either of you
So we stand here saying, “Seeing you again is great!”
I ask, “What are you doing now?” and you ask, “Have you lost weight?”
In order to avoid looking like a snob
I should make remembering names my job
Chances are we both go to this mall now and then
So somehow I’ll need to ask for your name again
The question is how do I do that?
I pull out my phone and say, “We should get together to chat.”
So I give you my name and number and you give me yours
With that awkwardness behind us we can continue shopping in the stores
I will no longer forget names and appear aloof
My new method for saving names is practically foolproof
Then we met again at the mall while we were strollin’
But I forgot your name again because my cell phone was stolen!
