My sistas
My brothas
We need to get together and hug one another.
Let's give up that nasty attitude
and that look like we're in pain
We all know what it is
We don't have to go around showing our kids
We've all felt the rain
We all seek to reign
In connection with something Supreme
I mean, (I'm saying)
Where there is light shined upon
There's things to be seen.
Don't squint your eyes because then you only see half
of the truth
Open them wide and explain to our youth
That once upon a time
There was darkness cast upon
Those who were gifted so that they couldn't see beyond.
While in the dark
laws were being made
that allowed them to be slaves
Worked without being paid
Hoping one day to be saved.
My sistas and brothas
Gifted minds had to unify
to keep all hopes alive.
Roads have been paved
so that You and I
Could see today
We must act the same way
so that Our kids can see tomorrow.
During our Ancestors (parents) time
They found a way for light to shine
Not too much to make you act blind
Just enough to show you that:
Hope is still alive,
We can no longer be forced into slavery,
We are overcoming divide and conquer
And we're only a Big Hug away from
Total Unification.
So let's do it for Us and our kids
Our Ancestors (parents) did.
I like this one C-Nell. To be honest I like the ones prior to as well. I am glad to see you take this route. Quite brave. I don't hear people speak like this too much anymore. I like the fact that you are using visual composition when you write. The deliberate layout of the poem adds value to what your saying. Capital letters and periods where you feel they are needed is marvelous. I am pleasantly surprised, but then again, not really. Keep your head up brotha and keep doing your thing. Job well done. I will read the rest at another time. I want to read these a few more times and let them sink in. Namaste. Ryan
