‘FRIENDSHIP NEVER ENDS’ I SUPPOSE, BUT LOVE…?

It’s natural that everyman needs a girl to make love. But in most cases, I’d say that it’s the lust that kindles and induces this love. The outward appearance (charm) that one has; the status that one enjoys in society; and the muscle power that one has become the promoters of love.  May be in rare cases, a boy or girl might try to build up a closer relationship as per the good attributes of the other person.  I’d say that the love we have for others, blossoms the other way too! That is; it gets ignited even without minding the external beauty of the person who is being loved.

That was what happened to my relationship with my fiancé.  It’s quite obvious that the attraction towards her was her self-confidence, honesty, sincerity, determination, commitment and most of all, not forcing anyone to do anything as per her whims and fancies!  She stood her ground till the end!  That was for nine years without giving vent to any emotional feelings!  Though we had our outings week after week, she had never accompanied me at nights except on one occasion.  The only time she had come along at night, was for an over-night stay that we had for all the staff of our organization on a hill station.  The ‘West Life’ song, ‘Seasons in the sun’ that we listened to still makes me mad whenever I listen to it.  ‘Good Bye to you my trusted friend’!

Our week end trips that made us land on the same hill station provided us a lot of privacy and the time to discuss matters of no importance but ‘Life’.  The chilly weather and the frosting on the windscreen of the car gave us the much wanted privacy. The isolated mountainous place gave us the extreme conditions, but she saw that her world didn’t fall apart. That’s what the strength of a confident looking grown up girl is, I suppose! Weeks, months and years passed by.

Nine years had rolled off.  By this time I had left my job over there and had taken a new assignment in another place that was 400 kilometers away.  On that day, on her request, I drove down the ‘Blue Mountains’ and reached her after a long and exhaustive drive. She had done her homework and seemed to have made up her mind.  I didn’t know what was in the offing as this meeting happened to take place after a long break.  Her face seemed to glow in the morning sunlight and her one-sided nose-stud glittered more than usual.  She was wearing the same pair of dangling ear-studs which I used to admire at.  When I stopped the car, she got in and said, “Let us go”.  I asked her, where to?  She answered, “To the usual place”.

The silent nervous drive continued for the next sixty minutes with my car breathing down the bonnet silently.  It looked as if my car knew what was in store for me! Once we had reached, she sat as usual inside the car and opened up, ‘Hi! We have been together for quite some time.  We have seen so many ups and downs.  Fortunately, we managed to sail through all that majestically and safely.  Thank God for saving us from any sort of mental or physical commitments! You may like to continue a life of this sort; but I am not, as I like to lead a life that’s more meaningful.  Both of us enjoyed each other’s company.  Now, it’s high time we part as friends”.

I was shell shocked, but my conscience started poking me.  It made me realize that I was not serious enough to accept her as my life partner, though she offered herself to me as a spotlessly clean dame who could be either taken as my better-half or as a great friend of mine.  As I couldn’t decide on that, she made the final decision and offered to part as friends!  “Friendship never ends, I suppose”.  I cursed my foolish decision to lay things off and thought of such an uncompromising situation!

Author's Notes/Comments:

The passage tells you how genuine love changes into friendship. Because the writer is not bold enough to  make decision even after nine years of serious love,  his fiance makes the final decision and parts him as a friend.

The committment of love

The committment of love surpasses all relationships. Too many times people confuse love with romance and cohesive lifestyles that promote an 'easy life', when in fact, they are completely off the path of divine love.

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

...ben, I think you wanted to

...ben, I think you wanted to use the words 'dumb struck', as dumb means mute. 'Dump', means to place something in the trash. Wink....although I am sure that you would never place a friend in the trash!! Smile

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

  I am really overwhelmed by

I am really overwhelmed by your comments on my two poems and the prose passage! I don't know how to thank you for the guidence and comments you have been giving. Though I am old enough, I am still prone to make mistakes.  As said, I will delete the phrase 'dump struck' as it's out of place as well as with a spelling mistake.  Thanks a lot and thank you so much for all your comments.  Great.

You're so welcome, ben. It

You're so welcome, ben. It was my pleasure as I enjoyed the writing as well as my own reflection about the subject from a broad view. This is a very important subject for us all as we integrate with different cultures here on the internet. I am glad that you also learned something about the use of the phrase, as I wasn't sure if it was intentionally used as 'dump' or not. Languages can be very difficult when it comes to some of the translations!! You are always so gracious and discerning in your interpretations which can be difficult to find, so the compliments are reciprocated. ~Peace!~

Peace I take; and mistakes I regret and forget. After all 'To err is human and to forgive is divine'.
