WITHERING LEAF (Crest Fallen)
How soft and tender you are:
Where were you thus far?
Could no one like to feel?
Thy evergreen velvety feel.
You were scared I was told;
To come out of the womb that conceived;
Did no one tell you?
That winter’s gone!
How do you know that spring has come?
‘Coz, your attire is evergreen bright;
How long will you stay with me?
To share the greenness of this world.
It’s summer’s time to keep you warm,
But its sweltering heat that turns and harms;
I could see thy evergreen face,
That pales and fades into autumn’s hand.
Withering breeze that sweeps across;
Doesn’t it like you stay for long?
Oh! You evergreen face of young!
Thou has fallen from thy crest!
Thy fall I would take;
Is my fall I suppose;
Let no man change
Thy nature’s norms!
