Dragon Flies

DRAGON FLIES
Don’t know where they come from
To the island I live;
Ten months I spend in full
Leaving my family in my native land.

This island is not as big
As the golfer’s field!
With just the corrugated  dwellings
And five thousand lives.

The lagoon that surrounds
Adds colour to this land;
But the sea waves that rise
Threaten to brim over land.

Quite an isolation, an idle life;
Free from pollution and healthy life;
What’s the solution to this aloofness?
And be back in ‘My native Land’.

January to November is hell of a time!
Quite a time to be away from land.
The routine that follows settles in boredom
And makes me forget, my wonderful life.

Hi! They have come! Over there; they are!
Ones and twos, at first they come; and
I see the children go berserk
Catching those ‘Dragon Flies’.

October is gone and November round;
I’m quite delighted to see these flies;
They just remind me, of the aero flight;
That, I got to take, to reach my home.

The wonderful sight of the dragon flies
Makes me fly to my native land; and
I just dream of, what I got to do
With family and friends; yonder there.

The course of wind, takes a turn
No more the boats are anchored here
Hi! I wanna leave this alien land
And set foot on my ‘Native Land’.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem titled 'Dragon flies', makes one understand the feelings of the writer who is compelled to stay away from home on professional grounds.  The dragon flies which migrate and come over to the island during the month of October and November remind him of his home for away and his quest to go back to his native land.
