‘Go Green’
Thatched huts and tiled roofs; raw stones and clay bricks,
Houses made of rammed earth; where our ancestors lived.
Twigs and mud pots; grind stones and nutritious corns,
Made their ‘Eats’ so tasty; not so wealthy, but so healthy.
Cows and goats, fed them with milk, butter and ghee;
Nuts and fruits, combined with hard-work
And crops that were grown with home-made manure
Made them quite sturdy, hearty and nice.
‘What’s wrong?’ I just asked
Could we be so fragile? I just reckon!
Hollow blocks and cement dwellings
Laid with marbonite slabs and glossy tiles;
Painted walls with acrylic emulsions
Just deprive us, of our naturals!
Flying machines and limousines
When strapped to seats, makes us lazy;
Videos and play-stations; laptops and I-pads;
And over doze of studies, make us sitting ducks.
Coffee houses and restaurants; star hotels and roof gardens
Junk foods and fast foods make us so obis!
Stop! Watch! Turn around and see;
What you can do to help yourself?
Modernization and globalization is just ok;
But giving up traditionals is just no good!
‘Hurt you not, oh dear; ‘Go green’ without fear
For each tree that is felled, you lose a kid, that’s yours!
‘Go Green’, Oh lads; ‘Go Green’, Oh lasses
‘Go Trim’, Oh grown-ups and make Her as green as ever.
