Captured Dreams
I look back upon reflections through the years
Reminiscing with laughter and tears
Wish I knew then what I know now
I would change things somehow.
Mom and Dad did the best they could
We struggled, but I understood
I knew others who had a lot less
All I wanted was to play ball and be the best
Captured dreams of a young man with a world wide open
Youthful spirits rising high
Visions of glory in a land of hope
Hidden away were the tears he would soon cry.
We were a family back then
Mom, Dad, Brother, Sis and me
Not a great tale but a nice little story
Then Dad came in one day
Said it was time to move and uprooted the family,
We were off to California.
What a time it was in the early Seventies
Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll, Love and Peace
Growing rampant and running wild in the streets
The future became a thing of the past
You lived for the moment, living fast
Captured dreams to hide
Still there but cast aside
Visions of beauty disguised
Tears to come falling when he cries.
The family split and went their seperate ways
With no direction I strayed
Not that it mattered
I wasn't going anywhere
I was lost and didn't care.
How long does it take to drive that stake
Right through the heart
To tear it apart?
Not long before it all goes wrong
All it takes is a moment or two
Before it can devastate you
Captured dreams fading to a memory
Of what was once filled with beauty
Visions turned into stark images of a darkened sky
As the rain threatens to pour when he cries.
Living hard and loving fast
She loved me but it wouldn't last
She was anchored and I was out to sea
Casting away the love I had for beauty.
I'll never forget the day she kissed me and said goodbye
That was the day I finally broke down and cried
Tears for years gathered for the storm
Free falling from deep inside
A day of reckoning for a young man in despair
As he once again realized he cared
Captured dreams once more
Now holding the key to unlock the door.
