I know I'm bad at keeping in touch
but this one hits home so much
Found out today an old friend
has been dead a few years and
I just found out today
Wow is all I can say
I am still in shock
Mari, you rock
Once upon a time, we did a crazy thing
Six of us did a day trip thing
So wild takes much imagining
We all worked in theater and went out to drink
You know how crazy that makes you think
I had just returned from L.A.
but Mari had to say
What is the most tacky thing we could do
voted hollywood stars homes tour to do
kinda funny cuz was just out there with a friend
I refused to do it to such an end
but Mari talked us into going that night
met at the airport,caught a red-eye flight
none of us had money but two had credit cards
so we said let's put it on charge
we came up with the money when the bill was due
but it was still a wild and crazy thing to do
remember leaving my mom a note
gone to L.A. be back in a day is all I wrote
I stuffed an apple and orange in my army jacket pocket
then took off like a rocket
to catch our flight
that same night
left with the clothes on my back
no luggage to speak of I kept track
don't think I could do justice to the exhilaration
of that awesome experience
spur of the moment crazy trip
spontaneous memories hold a grip
on my heart and soul
we were on a roll
saw sunrise on Mullholland Drive
made us feel so alive
did Mann's Chinese
found it with ease
booked hollywood tour somewhere around there
went to Farmers Market, Melrose Place, Forest Lawn
visited hollywood hero graves then on
to Griffith Observatory
where my energy went crazy
cuz of Rebel Without a Cause....James Dean
he connected us somehow...know what I mean
Awesome poem, I'm sorry for your loss. It's always fun to do crazy things like that though.
