Why can't people leave you alone
You try to be nice
They think they can roll the dice
Or have a slice
Of your life
And cause you some strife
Well I ain't gonna pay that price
You can't be nice to all you meet
Out there on the street
Cuz some out there give you cause for alarm
They may want to do you some harm
You can't tell which stranger
Will bring you some danger
It's sad that we can't all be friends
That all delinquents can't make amends
You can't tell who you can trust
Rely on your instincts...that you must
And if you're wrong
I hope you're strong
Cuz you may have to fight
For your own life
You feel you can't get dressed up
Or you may end up messed up
By some animal that lacks self control
And heeds only animalistic goals
You gotta put yourself
On a shelf
Be as cold as ice
So he won't think twice
I wanna be good
If only I could
I hate to put up a front
Being ignorant and rude
But I have to protect myself
So I'll risk being crude
Livin in the city
Ain't life a pity
The scene ain't so pretty
Why can't people leave you alone?
I wish people would leave me alone, too. Alas, good poem...
