Split Reel

They say hey what's the deal

I say I'm a split reel

I come apart at the seams

There go all of my dreams

One day I'm rolling, really going strong

Back and forth all day long

Next day I may sit on a shelf

Got nothin' to do by myself

I'm either sittin' still or goin' round and round

Tell me a good way to keep myself sound

At times I'm useful, people need me so

But then there's times they say hey go blow

Either everyone wants you

Or they all could care less

I guess you can see

The reason for my distress

They say how do you feel

I say like a split reel

Do ya know what I mean

Are your sense real keen

I keep goin in circles

I can't go straight

Won't ya help me please

Before it's too late

I say this is the deal

I say I'm a split reel

I say that's how I feel

Author's Notes/Comments:

Written long ago when I went to a 16mm film school and was going crazy in the editing room working with split reels...I wrote a lot of my good old poetry in the editing room....trying to edit footage for an exactly two minute film exactly so many feet...cut and splice and go insane...creative stuff...
