MY SHAKESPEARIAN RESPONSE

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

Shakespearian sonnet I was sent...

Thus can my love excuse the slow offence
Of my dull bearer when from thee I speed:
From where thou art why should I haste me thence?
Till I return, of posting is no need.
O, what excuse will my poor beast then find,
When swift extremity can seem but slow?
Then should I spur, though mounted on the wind;
In winged speed no motion shall I know:
Then can no horse with my desire keep pace;
Therefore desire of perfect'st love being made,
Shall neigh--no dull flesh--in his fiery race;
But love, for love, thus shall excuse my jade;
Since from thee going he went wilful-slow,
Towards thee I'll run, and give him leave to go.

my written reply to it........

thou's love should nary excuse
any perceived offense
for the trajectory of one's intent
there are proponents to be viewed
returnest not in haste
why doth thy proffer such proposal
to mine troubled eyes
to sit it before me to waste
whenest thou long ago lamented
under woe
the lessons from the famed romantics
that distance doth make the heart
all the fonder grow
careth not for the seat of whatever
the beast
be him friend clothed in fur
or enemy of thine's own weight
of his strength's speed and use
ye nay shall need
for'ist I am immobile in the deepest
channel of mine love for thee
and see no rent that needs to be
so hastily paid
so seeketh your dwindling moments wise
spend those rushing hours thus
pining for want of my love to thee
once returned
as you jostle about on the afternoon
journeyman's stage

A BEFITTING RESPONSE INDEED!

Wow! Your response is totally befitting and I admire it very much. Your talent with the words and your usage is in a class of its own and that makes you unique among all the other poets and poetesses here. You have given so much not just to the English language but to English poetry too via your poems....at times you make me really accept what you have written about yourself in your bio that you are "voracious". I love this voraciousness that has given so much to so many. You are magically gifted by The God Almighty and that is why your page abounds with poems on almost every subject. Your style is straightforward and yet totally poetic. You are a rare woman O poetess and may The God Almighty add more to your abilities. I wish you all the best. Even the Bard would have been taken aback for a while by your response....because replying to the Bard is not easy at all and yet you have done it very nicely and very aptly. My best wishes and prayers are with you always.

Talk about a double whammy! Stunning critique.........

I knew you would reply to this because I recall how so very much you love the Bard. I am so pleased that my choice of old English in my poetic reply pleases ye so well! Oh and I must thank you for reminding me of something that I could not myself recall. My sister and I went last week to see that movie, 'The Fault Of Our Stars' and I knew it came from the Bard and one of his plays but for the life of me could not place where I had read it. Been too many years since I'd read Caesar in high school so thank you for that inadvertant reminding you gave me. You praise me though a tad too mightily but I do firmly believe that in your heart of hearts you are being sincere. Thank you for the generosity of your intellect and insight. Sincerely, you know who, so I need not type it! (grins!)
