HIPPIE NATION INSPIRATION

Folder:
JOURNAL # 37

the ragamuffin peace scheme
criss crossed the turbulent 60's and 70's
from the heights of Ash berry
to the marches on Washington
that is until Wood Stock broke open
its own entire role
there were beat nicks and draft dodgers
dancing and drinking and frolicking alike
in that muddy field
seeking solace in the abundance
of their drugs
amid signs of 'Make Love Not War'
'Give Peace A Chance and 'God Is Love'
with the likes of (Gloria) Steinman and (Abby) Hauffman
inciting their separate camps to protest the establishment
the country swiftly grew out of some very painful stereotypes
opening minds while devaluing the 50's role model of the family
hopeful and destructive forces merged to sweetly poison
the dull norms of the white bread culture
Keroac and Ginsberg rhymed their self discoveries and discontent
further influencing the thoughts of the disaffected youth
rigidly the troops were Marshaled in with overwhelming force
across the campus of Kent State
the rally revelers fought to have their voices heard
hoarsely chanting
'Hell no! We Won't Go'
'Free Speech Is Beautiful'
'He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother'
battle lines were drawn in the fresh, young, impressionable minds
morals and free love played chicken
morals of the day for a moment gave in and blinked
free love tied and gagged many morals for a time
and free love won
languishing in the dawning of the age of Aquarius
and a haunting soul with the voice of an angel
named Jim Morrison
with his vehicle ironically enough named The Doors
carried the Idyllic banner of what that whole era was about
right to his handsome young demi-god's grave
and all of that upheaval of an era three decades now passed
still lingers somewhat
in small pockets of American youth today
middle America struggled to find her true self
while Warhol painted 'you're the boss, apple sauce' beautiful
across the hem of her home spun dress
in bright sexy shades of his very own strange
and that was an era of people and places and events
who threw the door wide open to a new younger more vibrant
more daring America
that the world enjoys talking about even to this very day
a world built in awe and reverence by none other than
such 'Hippie Nation Inspiration' mentality
the centuries will be studying this phenomenon for
many a history class to come..................

my spotty checkered view of the free love era of the late 60's and early 70's.

Living here in a hippie

Living here in a hippie haven, I must say, I truly enjoy and adore these folks in their old age. And they are inspiring the heck out of me. :) Enjoyed the read, Melissa! Thanks for driving me over here. :)
