heralded as
a commodity most respected
here amid the physical poverty
the riches in the poet spirit
break away
erasable envies
finger dance
around the inevitable
poetry is writ for love
rarely for money
at times for the need of self sharing
and truth
but never as a means to fill up the
horrendous hungry void
that boredom breeds in the mind ever a plenty
its when the soul needs a venue
thats when the poet hands himself a pen
poetry chooses to be written and by whom
and all is entirely crafted from the deepest within
a shallow poet
is the easiest to spot
he writes to impress
more so than express
his words fall unnaturally upon the discontent of
his page
yet, its the poet who too heavily relies upon the
coining of words that are vague and grandiose
who drives readers away in train loads
but true depth too itself is scary
but its a good scary
and though its true that not everyone can stomach
and or adequately describe just what in themselves
they find
but if he's 'The Poet True'
he finds a way to entice his readers to join him
on his quest
everyone has it in them
to write a little poetic script
sustaining such efforts though
takes deep, strong insight of self
yet if such years of dedication yield a crop
that won't pay
that is when the wanna be poet should concede
his lack and alter the purpose of his pen
great playwrights have been known to be born
of dead beat poets
the constantly piercing endeavor of brutal
self discovery
takes the most courage
lending much suggestive weight to the very old
adage that the pen is mightier than the sword
if this is indeed true then the likes of
Yeats
Blake
Elliot
Tennyson
and Longfellow
are the most courageous knights
that ever took up
and wielded the mighty pen.............

very true Melissa. One either has a poet's soul or he doesn't. Its both a gift and a burden, but it is defintly bestowed upon one. You can't purchase it, you can't will it, and if you have it you can't escape it.
thank you so much for your validation
I just must apologise for the lengthy time it took me to reply to such wise words. Sincerely, Melissa
