PINING FOR THE CHASM

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

we became common fodder
through a marriage of opposing views
a tangled indifference set out to make
its own weekend journey
crooked rain
saturated our many attempts at
mediocrity
you were a Harvard chalk board
to my own Walmart purchased wide rule
how I loved that chasm we deliberately
dipped our toes in
we each chose and rose
above the uniquely cultured versions
of ourselves that others had meticulously
groomed
you were just a man
and i a mere woman
paddling along
allowing our hearts to dive out of the
boat
and into the every-day-ness of living
unscreened
unseasoned
unsanctioned
and wholly unabashed
plainly and simply
we loved
until your inner calling of old
ties woke you up
marched you unceremoniously
out of our shared reality
and put you on a plane
bound for your family's home
begrudgingly I recovered
though battered, scarred
and defaced of any real kindness
such abyss taught me
hell is not for the weak
and wings of strength grow from
even the most damaged tendons of
misery
so I must thank you for that
forgiveness was there
long before even the full hardship
of the pain............

Author's Notes/Comments:

Sorting through the debris of a long now over love affair that soured. Distance can provide some remarkable hindsight indeed.

the writing of it I must admit was cathardic indeed.

I see now many can relate to its pathos. Glad you were one. Sincerely M.
