CONKER TIME

Another autumn once more beholds,
the leaves changing to their reds and golds,
conkers hang on the lovely horse chestnut tree,
quick gather them up for you and me,

No video games I pads laptops to be seen,
just a silly game smashing conkers to smithereens,
what fun in the playground two hits and there gone,
except for the pickled one that goes on and on,

Conkers, dibs, black jack, hop scotch and all,
but we all played together making up the rules,
simple fun everyone could play,
these are my memories of a another day,

I walk through the woods with little Tilly,
many children would laugh and think me silly,
to say an uneditable fruit could bring such joy,
but conker time was just magical when I was a boy.
