I always dream of you

Dear Lover

As I inhale the memories

of knights spent

in the dark...

of secrets and dream

sand just us

working towards a future

we can be proud of...

As I remember conversations

spoken over the rumble

of your bright yellow Bug...

As I recall the moment

you asked

me

to be yours

As I look at all the notes

you've read

the twelve page letters

I've written

As I lay in my bed thinking of what

it would feel like

to have ou lying by my side...

to be able to roll over

and

see you

sleeping peacefully

at ten o'clock in the morning

As you and I sing

Disney songs

on our way to the convenient convenient store

And as I fall asleep to a muted movie

and hopes of seeing you tomorrow...

I am always dreaming of you.

Author's Notes/Comments:

there are a lot of allusions/illusions in this, images that stand for specific parts of our relationship.

"knights spent" = the first night we were together, we watched A Knight's Tale

Bug = he is known for his bright yellow 1970 volkswagen beetle

"you asked me to be yours" = his exact words were "I want you to be mine"

notes/letters = I get broed easily and constantly write him pointless half-page notes or long letters covering several pages

ten o'clock in the morning = duh, he's a guy, a young guy at that, so it is very rare that he is awake before 10 a.m.

Disney songs = especially when the stereo doesn't work, one of our favorite things to do is to sing out loud random Disney songs

convenient convenient store = that's something my Dad started as a family joke, and josh, bless his gorgeous heart, picked right up on it, along with every other family joke we have.

the last line is an allusion in itself, because this poem was actually written in response to a text message I got saying "sleep well and dream of me"
and I had to find a way to tell him that I always am dreaming of him.

and voila
the first really decent love poem I think i've ever written
