The Problem With Remembering

The sky was darkening quickly

So I cleared the steps with one bound.

Flinging the door open swiftly,

I shuddered.  Not one welcomed sound.

As lightning split skies turning somber,

I rushed in and flipped on the light.

The mist metamorphosed to drizzle,

Soaking all earth in my sight.

Leaning on the doorframe I watched it,

Come dripping from rooftop and limb.

Why does the rain make me wistful?

Why do my thoughts turn to him?

It's over and I know it's past tense,

But memories are frequent and real.

So many years lie between us,

That the problem is not how I feel.

Rain takes the place of the drizzle,

As wind whips the stately old oak.

The pelting of drops on the porch boards,

Takes a rhythm, as tears make me choke.

Pushing the door closed I hasten,

Inside where the light fills the room.

With all its soft warmth and its color,

Why is it cold like a tomb?

The wheel of my mind spins abruptly.

How quaint that I think now of this!

'Twas a fine steady downpour in April,

When he stole our very first kiss.

Fie! How the mind does repay us

For foolisness long past the act.

"Goodbye." can last til forever,

With no chance to take it all back.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This was another challenge...(give me ten words)...wheel, darkening, flinging, stately, quaint, cleared, tomb, dripping, problem, frequent...

Excellent! Even better, it's one for the game. I thought it was some past memory you had written about. You did very well with those ten words. Do you have another in the making?

Boy!, you sure do know how to rapture another poet's mind with your descriptions!! And THOSE "10" took you back to this??!! I've felt that rain! I've tasted that April's kiss!! I've smelled that lightning, too!!! Let's see if another's "10" can take you into the Future; we'll all enjoy that trip!! Excellent images, Jess.

"Poe" I'm not, nor "Rich" am I,
but I'll be famous, b'ye and b'ye !
