My heart and eyes with tears were filled.
I could not find my way.
My groping hands and feet, though tired,
No rest found night nor day.
The doubts of all my life assailed.
Each failure I recalled.
I cried for help, yet no one came.
In sorrow's pit I crawled.
Job's friends were myriads of light
Compared to those I knew.
Misjudged, debased, accused, ignored,
Into the snare I flew.
No strong defender of the faith
Was I, as down I fell.
I floundered in despair and grief
And swam in pity's well.
Then late one night as sleepless I,
Lay quiet in my bed,
I heard the precious Master's voice.
My heart lost all its dread.
"Why do you weep, my daughter?"
He whispered in my ear.
"The times you are forsaken,
Are the times when I draw near."
"I too was plagued with gossip,
As I went about my work.
I too, abandoned, languished
With my heart left in the dirt."
"When all around rebuffs you,
And you feel you're all alone,
Remember that your Savior
Walked Calvary's Hill alone."
"And though the burden's heavy,
And the pain is hard to bear,
All gain is loss without the cross,
And I will meet you there."
Magnificently done! And the first two lines of the third stanza express something that every person has experienced1 Bravo!
