Today is Gary's Birthday.



My baby is now a man.



I can't help but think of him this morning.



I'm doing the best I can.



Once I heard a lady say



As she noticed the time and date in past tense...



"Ten years ago at this moment



I was in labor, and I've been laboring ever since."



At the time I thought it was funny.



But I'm thinking now with a different view.



Son, just because you think you're a man,



Doesn't mean Momma will stop caring for you.

I like the insertion of the 'past tense' element in the middle of the poem, Jess.
Quite like a short yet effective flashback to the persona' mines of memories.
A great achievement for u, undoubtedly. *~**~ APPLAUSE *~*~ for the gem u still behold as a baby.

sounds so much like my own Mother... I have grown kids with kids of thier own... but my mother still looks at me as her Baby ( I am the youngest of her children ).
this is beautiful and beautifully written!
