A friend of mine was lonely and so she surfed the net.
If I had known how great her loneliness, I would have stuck closer you can bet.
She entered chat rooms, penpal sites and any other means to ease her pain.
She had nothing at all to lose, she thought,
And everything on earth to gain.
Somewhere through some odd occurance she met a man with charm.
He talked of things she too embraced, sorrow and grief then disarmed.
He was a married man and SHE was a lady through and through.
She had never crossed marital bonds, that was something she WOULD NOT do.
Her story goes as these things happen through days and into weeks.
He started phoning at all hours. She LIVED to hear him speak.
I hear this now after all is said and I think with a shake of the head.
"How could someone so sensible be so stupid and so mislead?"
Well, I've lived alone myself and so, I know isolation's ache.
I too have been tricked at times and my heart would rend and break,
But HER problem is a much worse thing, since she told me just today.
Although she never did one thing wrong, HE STOLE HER HEART AWAY.
They both acknowledged his marriage as holy and swore they'd never meet,
But there SHE IS with a wounded spirit, and her heart lying at her feet.
She says she'll never forget him but she's trying to keep up a good face.
She swears she's only getting by through the Lord's Own amazing grace.
Now tell me reader, if you possibly can, does this make sense to you?
How can you wholly love a man you've never met and who in turn has never seen you?
So familiar, it's scary!
Good job, Jessica.

Hi there,
This happens a lot, unfortunately. She will realize that he has done this before and will do this again...preying on lonely women....luckily she has friends like you to help her through.

This is very beautiful, deep and thought provoking. I for one find the internet very intense...an intensity that is very hard to find in real time...face to face...so it's almost like souls kissing. Sometimes the mystery of not touching, feeling actually makes the experience even more intense.
I think this poem is a winner...very well written.
Friendship in its own mysterious
way makes us whole; yet there are
so many things we cannot understand
about life; even as we go the way
of all mankind...
There is meaning and so much
thoughtfulness here. This is
surely a ballad from a heart
that yearns to know, to be,
and be useful to others. But
friends too have their own
pathway to follow. And perhaps,
in following such unfathomable
pathways they too will arrive
at their own fulfilment or hope
of it which of course sustains
our human spirit...
"Be My Friend" surely takes us
into those realistic reralms
of life where, most times,
we fear to tread...Let us then
learn from these realities
lets we grief our lives away!
Thank you so much, Jessica,
for this thoughtful ballad!

Sometimes lonliness causes you to do strange things, but worst of all, sometimes when other people know of that lonliness, they take advantage.
