First Love

I got the flowers You sent me.

They looked lovely in the sun.

And all day long they whispered,

"You're my very favorite one."

I saw the man You sent, Love,

To plow my garden spot.

I felt ecstatic--glad all day

Such protection as my lot.

The afternoon together

Was delightful You'll agree.

But sometimes still I shake myself

To think that You'd love me.

Today as I washed dishes,

An unromantic chore,

Your voice began to reach me,

"I love you more and more."

And when about the house I work

I feel Your eyes at times,

Watching every step I make

I am Yours and You are mine.

I took a vow to love You,

In a church house long ago.

I promised to obey You...

Mountains high or valleys low.

And ever since I promised

Our hearts have woven tight.

For You enjoy my love song

And I need Your strength and might.

Tonight when on my bed I lie

I'll have peace in my soul,

For the One Lord God Creator,

Ore' my life has full control.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The things in this poem actually happened.  At a time in my life when I had no money, no help and no one to turn to, God sent a neighbor to plow my garden in an answer to prayer.  He just showed up on his tractor and said he wanted to try out his new plow--did I plan to have a garden?  When I couldn't afford the expensive bulbs I wanted, some were given to me free of charge without my ever letting anyone know of the desire to have them.  God is so good to me.

This poem touched me to tears, really. It's so true how God takes care of our needs. Your faith is amazing and admirable. Thank you for writing this, 'cuz I'm sure it touches all who read it. It made me realize again how awesome God is and always has been to each of His children. Keep writing, you've got a great gift.
