Childhood Halloween
It’s dark outside, and I’m afraid.
My costume’s one that mother made.
It has a pointed, shiny hat.
It’s dark outside! Was that a bat?
My dress is black and very long—
I see a ghost! Or am I wrong?
I have a nose that’s not my own.
It’s dark outside! And I’m alone.
This is a very scary place!
I scare myself! That’s not MY face.
It’s dark outside! And here I stand.
Say, “Trick or Treat!” Stick out my hand.
I see the ghost, and then the bat.
They too get candy. How about that!
It’s dark outside! That makes it fun.
We get our treats, and then we run.
They see a witch when they look at me.
We’re quite a sight, we monsters three.
Author's Notes/Comments:
Children are our Fountain of Youth as well as our source of grey hair.
Jessica, this is brilliant, it really adds the finishing touch to a great poem.

Smilesz. I love poems that are childlike and whimsical...very uplifting and pleasing to the reading eyes and listening soul. This is most wellwritten, Jessica. I shared those thoughts before... Smilesz.
