I remember how it used to be

Standing there tall and bright

Arm in arm, just you and me

This whole world felt right



Those were better times

In a different place

When I could write you rhymes

With only the memory of your face



But then I walked away

With a heart too empty, an ego too full

The price I had to pay

Is still taking its toll



I left myself alone

Of tears, I shed a few

And finally I was able to atone

For mistaking a love so true



I came running back

Thought I had it solved

Even for all I did lack

Thought my mistakes had been absolved



Alas, it was not meant to be

Our hearts were not to meet

The future held no you and me

So with a broken heart, I took a back seat



I don't expect a tomorrow

Or any such bold claim

I don't expect your sorrow

I'm the only one to blame



However, sometimes I wonder just maybe

What might have been if I only had the heart to try

But don't cry for me baby

There comes a time we all must say goodbye
